State Trooper Charged with OUI After Fatal Crash

A Massachusetts State Police trooper is facing OUI charges after a head-on crash last weekend that killed a mother and daughter.

Massachusetts State Trooper John J. Basler, 25, of Kingston, will be charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor, after a Carver woman and her daughter were killed in a head-on collision on Sept. 22, according to the Boston Globe.

Susan Macchi, 64, died at the scene of the Federal Furnace Road crash and Juliet Macchi, 23, was pronounced dead at Jordan Hospital later that night.

The trooper, who was stationed at the State Police barracks in Milton, was off-duty at the time of the accident.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 reported Basler’s blood alcohol level was .26, three times the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle.
