Liz Scannell, Neighbor

Liz lives in Duxbury with her fiancé, and writes a tongue in cheek food blog, appropriately titled, Blog is the New Black, where she shares recipes and anecdotes about life in the ‘burbs. In her little corner of the Internet, she chronicles her culinary endeavors and says the blog forces her to cook outside of her comfort zone to keep things interesting for the readers. Her recipes range from light and healthy to rich and decadent, with an emphasis on desserts, particularly cupcakes. She says her personal food philosophy is “everything in moderation.” She hopes to encourage readers to toss the boxed brownie mixes and frozen dinners and get their hands dirty, as she claims that cooking and baking is nothing more than learning a few basic techniques and being able to follow a recipe. Her favorite dish is her dad’s chicken parmesan. She gleans her inspiration from well-knowns like Ina Garden and Giada De Laurentiis, and her future father-in-law, a retired chef, and her cousin, Andrea, executive chef at the Square Café in Hingham.
