The thing most intriguing to me about history is the day-to-day details. How did the ordinary person of another time and place wake up, find breakfast, work, learn take care of their basic needs, feed, and care for those around them and complete their day, body and spirit intact and perhaps more enriched?  I am interested in the tools they used do the same things we all do today, what they did differently.  I love the voyeurism of history, looking into past people's windows and speculating on their lives.  I am also intrigued with the beauty with which they did these things, the elegance of fashion, the workmanship of artisans, and the quality of the objects they left behind.  This is the same thing that sends us all to antique stores to touch the past and wonder what life was like for our forefathers.
