ReplyRe-activating Eldridge, Foster and Montiquot as kindergarten centers, building additions to all six elementary schools, adding gymnasiums to Flaherty and Ross and/or constructing four new K-5 schools. Cost ranges from $65 million to $122 million, according to the Habeeb study.
Half-day kindergarten is a thing of the past, offer it as an option at the Kindergarten Centers if there proves to be a demand for it.Why reactivate a school for a program that isn't growing, but declining. Look towards the future Braintree, start being proactive instead of reactive!

ReplyLaura, I agree with you that all of the schools are over crowded. My proposed solution was to re-open old elementary schools that are currently being leased to private schools or businesses and revise the home districts and assign children to these additional schools. New schools = more space.

ReplyIt's never a good time to redistrict because you need to relocated students to new home schools to make it happen. However, with the current over crowding in our classrooms, and the continuous growth in Braintree's population, it is unavoidable. Why aren't we reopening elementary schools? Modular classrooms is a penny wise, dollar irresponsible solution. Space has been a hemoraging issue for a longtime. Why does Braintree keep putting a bandaid solution on a bullet wound?

ReplyI think the difference in the payment plan might ALSO have something to do with it.
The pilot program has 10 months to pay the tuition. Next year it is due by January.
Payments in the amount of $750.00 is WAY TOO MUCH TO EXPECT parents to be able to pay at one time. Especially given the economy. -

Perhaps the fact that the tuition payment schedule is completely unrealistic has a part in the "financial reasons" referenced. Pilot program was $300 per month. Not installments of almost $700. Ridiculous.
