Entergy Nuclear and the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) reached a tentative agreement Wednesday on a new, four-year labor contract for Local 369 Technical employees at Pilgrim Station, pending a ratification vote by Union membership, according to an email from Entergy spokesman Carol Wightman. Additionally, the parties have agreed to a 21-day extension that will expire at midnight on Nov. 14. The previous contract for the aproximately 65 workers affected by this union contract will remain in effect during the extension. The original contract was set to expire at midnight Oct. 24. "We appreciate the hard work of both parties to come to a successful outcome to this negotiation process. We believe the new proposal represents fair and…

A contract with 62 workers at Pilgrim Nuclear plant expires at midnight tonight. Entergy officials say negotiations are ongoing.
Entergy's contract with 62 tech workers at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant expires at midnight tonight (Wednesday) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is ensuring that the plant is prepared in case of a strike or lockout. "Because of the possibility of a walkout or lockout, we have completed our review of the company’s strike contingency plans and found them to be acceptable," NRC Public Affairs Officer Neil Sheehan said in an email today. "We have also developed our own contingency plan, which details how we would respond to a strike affecting the site. Enhanced oversight is always an element of our contingency plans." Entergy and UWUA Local 369 are in negotiations, according to company spokesman Carol Wightman. The union held a strike …

The union representing workers at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station say their workers could choose not cross a picket line if 62 tech workers negotiating a contract now are locked out.
Entergy, the owner of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, is negotiation a new contract for 62 workers at Pilgrim who maintain the plant's computer systems ensuring communication and plant safety, and the union that represents these workers say other union members could choose to not cross a picket line if workers are locked out in a repeat of the summer's month-long lockout. Negotiations are ongoing but the contract is set to expire Oct 24. "[S]hould this escalate to a lock out workers from the other divisions would not be required to cross the picket line, so there is the potential for a repeat of this past summer should the operational division join the tech division on the picket line," union representative Krista Robinson said in an email…

Union workers are spending the next few days at Entergy's training facility after more than a month of picketing.
Union workers have put away their signs and their giant blow-up rat and gone back to work today after more than a month of picketing outside the gates of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. Sunday, members of UWUA 369 cast their votes on the latest contract offer from Entergy that was brokered by a federal mediator. This time, there was a 70-vote swing in favor of the contract: 141 for and 67 against. Two weeks ago members voted against a very similar contract, 89 for and 137 against. While specific details of the agreement are not being disclosed, the new four-year contract represents a substantial commitment to employees in the form of guaranteed wage increases, according to Entergy spokesman Carol Wightman. Benfits under the new contract …

Pilgrim nuclear power plant union approves new labor contract.
Operators of the Pilgrim Nucear Station, on strike and locked out of the plant for more than a month, ratified a new contract Sunday. They walked into a conference room at the Radisson Hotel on the waterfront, one by one, from 10am to 4pm to cast a yes or no vote. Union officials checked their name as among those who voted with a green underliner. The green proved prophetic as the members approved the agreement 141 to 67. After the 4pm count, one union leader gave instructions to the people still on the picket line via cell phone: "Pack the van, we're going back to work." "We are pleased that our workers have voted to accept Entergy’s latest contract offer," union president Dan Hurley said in a prepared statement. "These have been lengthy …

Entergy and the Union have a new contract to send to union members for ratification.
The owners of the Pilgrim Nuclear power Station, Entergy, and the union of the employees who operate the plant have reached another tentative agreement to end a month-long strike and lock-out. Neither side released details of the tentative agreement Friday night. “After this latest round of negotiations, we've agreed to bring Entergy's offer back to our membership for a vote,” Dan Hurley, president of the Utility Workers Union of America Local 369, said. “This has been a long process for our workers, as they have been locked out of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant for the past month and without medical coverage since the beginning of July. Entergy's ongoing lockout of experienced workers jeopardizes the safety of our communities, and we have …

Union members and politicians are rallying today on the State House steps, urging Entergy to offer better health care options and ensure safe working conditions at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
Union members and politicians are rallying today on the State House steps, urging Entergy to offer better health care options and ensure safe working conditions at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. According to a UWUA Local 369 spokesman, the scheduling of today's rally is ironic because of today's Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act. Krista Robinson of O'Neill and Associates, the publicity firm representing the union said: It’s ironic that on a historical day when the Supreme Court has ruled to uphold healthcare, this Louisiana based company is set to rip healthcare benefits away from workers. Entergy has set a Saturday midnight deadline for UWUA Local 369 healthcare benefits to expire. This will dramatically impact …

20 days into the lockout, union workers are still picketing outside Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
Local 369 union workers have been locked out of the Pilgrim Power Plant in Plymouth for 20 days and with the latest contract proposal voted down, the number of protesters outside of Entergy’s gate has shrunk. While part of the numbers may have to do with the heatwave the region has been through, it also has to do with coverage, according to Kelly O’Brien, a member of the union’s Negotiating Committee. "We’re requiring seven days a week coverage. We know we need to give people a break to spend some time with their families, to get a chance to do what they have to do to take care of their business," O'Brien told WATD. "At of the end of this week, people will be losing their medical coverage so they have to do what they have to do with that…

Members of UWUA Local 369 rejected Entergy's proposed contract 137-89 today, citing pay and healthcare cuts.
Barely 18 hours after announcing an agreement to negotiate with Entergy, UWUA Local 369 membership rejected the proposed contract. Of the 226 votes, 137 voted against the contract. Union president Dan Hurley said membership "will not accept cuts to their pay or health care from a company making record profits and paying executives in the tens of millions. We urge Entergy to return to the bargaining table so that we can realistically address the very real concerns of our members. "The community has also spoken loud and clear: our union brothers and sisters, political leaders and all who value the safe operation of this plant have called on Entergy to end this lockout so that our workers can return to their important jobs of keeping our …

UWUA membership has rejected the proposed contract hammered out by Entergy and union leadership.
Union membership has rejected Entergy's proposed contract according a release from Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. Here's the press release from Pilgrim spokesman Carol Wightman: UWUA Local 369 Pilgrim Station Workers Reject New Contract The Company remains squarely focused on the safe operation of Pilgrim Station, which has been our focus throughout this contract negotiation process. Approximately two-thirds of the regular work force at Pilgrim Station remain on the job, and the Company’s alternate staffing/contingency plan remains in effect. The alternate staffing is consistent with maintaining the necessary safety focus at the plant. We continue to believe the proposed contract rejected today by the Local 369 Union membership …

The Local 369 members had every right to do what they did. They exercised their legal rights. And so did Entergy management who safely ran the unit for over a month. The best thing bith sides can do now is to focus on continued safety.   more ›
