Union Workers Ratify Pilgrim Contract

UWUA Local 369 tech unit workers ratify a new contract with Entergy with 94 percent of

The Utility Workers Union of America Local 369 announced today that it has ratified a contract with Louisiana-based Entergy Corp. for tech workers at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant, according to a release from the union Saturday. “We are pleased that we were able to negotiate a fair contract for the hard working men and women who keep this plant operating daily,” said UWUA Local 369 President Dan Hurley. “Despite Entergy’s best efforts, we fought hard to provide important protections for our workers, especially when it came to healthcare costs and working conditions.” The contract for the 68 tech workers, who are responsible for duties that range from maintaining plant safety to managing information technology systems was set to expire on …

Pilgrim Nuclear Union Official: 'Pack The Van, We're Going Back to Work'

Pilgrim nuclear power plant union approves new labor contract.

Operators of the Pilgrim Nucear Station, on strike and locked out of the plant for more than a month, ratified a new contract Sunday. They walked into a conference room at the Radisson Hotel on the waterfront, one by one, from 10am to 4pm to cast a yes or no vote. Union officials checked their name as among those who voted with a green underliner. The green proved prophetic as the members approved the agreement 141 to 67. After the 4pm count, one union leader gave instructions to the people still on the picket line via cell phone: "Pack the van, we're going back to work." "We are pleased that our workers have voted to accept Entergy’s latest contract offer," union president Dan Hurley said in a prepared statement. "These have been lengthy …

Another Tentative Power Plant Labor Agreement

Entergy and the Union have a new contract to send to union members for ratification.

The owners of the Pilgrim Nuclear power Station, Entergy, and the union of the employees who operate the plant have reached another tentative agreement to end a month-long strike and lock-out. Neither side released details of the tentative agreement Friday night. “After this latest round of negotiations, we've agreed to bring Entergy's offer back to our membership for a vote,” Dan Hurley, president of the Utility Workers Union of America Local 369, said. “This has been a long process for our workers, as they have been locked out of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant for the past month and without medical coverage since the beginning of July. Entergy's ongoing lockout of experienced workers jeopardizes the safety of our communities, and we have …

Union Protests Entergy Lockout at State House

Union members and politicians are rallying today on the State House steps, urging Entergy to offer better health care options and ensure safe working conditions at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.

Union members and politicians are rallying today on the State House steps, urging Entergy to offer better health care options and ensure safe working conditions at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. According to a UWUA Local 369 spokesman, the scheduling of today's rally is ironic because of today's Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act. Krista Robinson of O'Neill and Associates, the publicity firm representing the union said: It’s ironic that on a historical day when the Supreme Court has ruled to uphold healthcare, this Louisiana based company is set to rip healthcare benefits away from workers. Entergy has set a Saturday midnight deadline for UWUA Local 369 healthcare benefits to expire. This will dramatically impact …

Union Planning New State House Rally Against Entergy

Members of UWUA Local 369, labor leaders and concerned residents are planning another rally at the State House to demand safer working conditions, as Entergy's lockout continues into a third week.

UWUA Local 369 has scheduled a rally at the State House for Thursday as Entergy seeks a waiver from the NRC for its downsized fire safety crew at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. The rally takes place at 1 p.m. June 28. "Our members have spoken loud and clear – they will not accept cuts to their pay or healthcare, especially from a company that is making a million dollars a day from Pilgrim Nuclear and paying its executives tens of millions of dollars," UWUA Local 369 President Dan Hurley said in a press release. "The community has spoken also: they want the most highly trained workforce back on the job  and ensuring the safe operation of this plant. It’s time for Entergy to choose safety over profits." According to the release, the rally is…

Barely 18 hours after announcing an agreement to negotiate with Entergy, UWUA Local 369 membership rejected the proposed contract. Of the 226 votes, 137 voted against the contract. Union president Dan Hurley said membership "will not accept cuts to their pay or health care from a company making record profits and paying executives in the tens of millions. We urge Entergy to return to the bargaining table so that we can realistically address the very real concerns of our members. "The community has also spoken loud and clear: our union brothers and sisters, political leaders and all who value the safe operation of this plant have called on Entergy to end this lockout so that our workers can return to their important jobs of keeping our …

Union Rejects Entergy's Contract Proposal

UWUA membership has rejected the proposed contract hammered out by Entergy and union leadership.

Union membership has rejected Entergy's proposed contract according a release from Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. Here's the press release from Pilgrim spokesman Carol Wightman: UWUA Local 369 Pilgrim Station Workers Reject New Contract   The Company remains squarely focused on the safe operation of Pilgrim Station, which has been our focus throughout this contract negotiation process. Approximately two-thirds of the regular work force at Pilgrim Station remain on the job, and the Company’s alternate staffing/contingency plan remains in effect. The alternate staffing is consistent with maintaining the necessary safety focus at the plant.   We continue to believe the proposed contract rejected today by the Local 369 Union membership …

Entergy, Union Agree to Resume Labor Talks

Entergy and UWUA Local 369 have agreed to resume contract negotiations beginning Monday under the guidance of a federal mediator.

More than a week after locking out union workers under the threat of a strike, Entergy, the owner of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, and the Utility Workers Union of America Local 369 have agreed to resume labor negotiations beginning Monday, June 18. The Louisiana-based nuclear power generation company locked out union employees after the two sides failed to come to an agreement as the previous contract expired June 5. Approximately 250 employees at Pilgrim were affected by the lockout, and many have been picketing outside the plant since June 5.
