Relay for Life Asks for Hair Donations to Help Cancer Patients

Got hair? Then the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program needs you! People with lengthy locks are encouraged to donate it for cancer survivors at the Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth at Plymouth South High School on Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23.

Cosmetology students from Plymouth South will cut hair of donors beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, June 22, the first day of the overnight fundraiser to fight cancer. The students will provide much-needed hair styling for the tressless contributors following their donations. Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a national program that makes wigs from donated hair for cancer survivors who have lost their hair as the result of medical treatments. To donate hair, volunteers must follow these requirements: As part of are Pantene Beautiful Lengths, the donated hair is turned into wigs, which are then distributed for free through select American Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Are you ready for some Relay? With the Super Bowl just around the corner, the Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth will kick off its annual “walk around the clock” to fight cancer at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at PartyLite in Plymouth.

Plans for this year’s Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth will be announced at the Kickoff Celebration. Last year, this team event raised nearly $200,000 for research, treatment and programs to aid individuals and families dealing with cancer. In addition, the Relay For Life Kickoff will provide information on what local people can do to combat this terrible disease. Teams can sign up, individuals can volunteer, survivors can get support, businesses can learn about sponsorships and more at the event. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and that's the philosophy behind the Relay for Life. In spite of the rain and wind, spirits ran high as hundreds of people came together to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Cancer, in all its forms, has touched the lives of nearly every American, whether they've lost a loved one, helped a friend through the disease, or survived their own battle.
