Plymouth North Comes Back to Beat Silver Lake 6-3

The Blue Eagles soar above the Lakers in their victory on the ice.

From the drop of the puck to the last second of the game, each team played tough and intense, but in the end only one team came out on top. Plymouth North was the victor, holding off Silver Lake to secure the win. The game was played well on both sides. It came down to who was the stronger team. The Eagles decided that with a 6-3 win. Silver Lake played their best first period of the season, according to Assistant Coach Chuck Woodman. "We played them tough," Woodman said. "The goal was to pressure their defensemen; our forwards are pretty strong, and we crash to get turnovers." In the first period the Lakers did  just that, crashing into the line of defense until there is nothing left but net. Senior right winger Andy Hurley was the first …

A Tale of Two ADs

Plymouth North and Plymouth South high schools and their athletic directors have a friendly, and competitive, rivalry.

You'd think there would be a little more animosity. You'd think that a town with two high schools would experience more awkwardness: that the schools would scrape and scrap over resources. Yet, when it comes to high school athletics, Plymouth North and Plymouth South high schools see eye to eye. "It's great," Plymouth North Athletic Director Karl Braun said about working in a town with two high schools, "there's a good healthy rivalry between the two schools." Over at Plymouth South, Athletic Director Scott Fry doesn't see the notion of cross-town competition as a problem. "I don't think it limits us in any way to be honest," Fry said in a phone interview adding, "It's all I know, having been a teacher, coach and AD here." Fry has been …

Plymouth North Football Star Named to ESPNBoston All-State Team

Senior fullback and linebacker Matt Walsh recognized among top players in Massachusetts

Plymouth North senior fullback and linebacker Matt Walsh had the type of football season worthy of some hardware.  The Atlantic-Coast League all-star and team co-captain dominated on both sides of the ball and ultimately earned a spot as a linebacker on the ESPNBoston All-State team for his defensive efforts this season. It is a high honor for the hard-nosed, two-way player that almost didn't suit up for the Eagles this fall.  "I was honored. I was pretty excited that hard work pays off, but it wasn't just me. I wouldn't have been able to do without my teammates around me," Walsh said. Walsh was the focal point of the Eagles offense, but his presence was also vital on the defensive side, where he had more than 100 tackles, five fumble …
