The Plymouth Selectmen will set the rates for the new curbside pickup program and single-stream recycling. The rates are expected to be much lower than the current rate of $186.
The Board of Selectmen will set the rates for the new curbside trash pickup program at its meeting tonight, and the rates will be more than $100 less than the current rates. There are several options for the proposed rates: "The current dump sticker is $186. Private haulers cost anywhere from $400 to $700," Selectman Belinda posted on an earlier Plymouth Patch article. "What the town is offering is considerably less expensive than what is being charged now." And with curbside you get single-stream recycling. That means every recyclable item goes into one container -- paper. plastic, bottles, cardboard all in one container. That makes recycling very easy. Town Meeting got through the Special Town Meeting Warrant Saturday, and will pick it up again tonight at 7 p.m.
Plymouth Town Meeting approved single-stream recycling and curbside trash pick-up, effectively closing two of the town's transfer stations and, supporters hope, saving the town, and residents, a lot of money while increasing recycling. DPW Director Jonathan Beder said this means implementation of option three: "And that is to maintain service at one of the transfer stations, implement a single-stream curbside collection program, both of which will utilize a pay-as-you-throw program," according to WATD. Plymouth’s Department of Public Works will accept residential storm-related tree debris at 131 Camelot Drive, Saturday and Sunday only.
Plymouth’s Department of Public Works has announced that it will accept residential storm-related tree debris at the Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 131 Camelot Drive, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24. No yard waste or commercial debris will be accepted, only residential tree debris (tree branches and brush, but no leaves) as a result of the recent winter storms. DPW staff will be on hand to assist residents to properly dispose of the debris.

Plymouth Department of Public Works is preparing for an epic winter storm.
Power outages, coastal flooding, fallen trees and snow up to our eyeballs, that's what the meteorologists are predicting for Friday and Saturday. Or, it could be a complete washout. Either way, Plymouth DPW Director Jonathan Beder said his department is ready for whatever comes Plymouth's way. "We’re gearing up, making sure everything is running...We'll know better in the next 24 hours," he said Wednesday afternoon, just as the National Weather Service issued a blizzard watch for some parts of Southeastern Massachusetts. Roadwork on Obery Street begins March 26.
There are four seasons in New England, almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction. Well, we really didn't have still winter, or any winter at all over the past few months, but road construction season is coming. Beginning March 26 road work will begin on Obery Street, the work should conclude April 20. Between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. the road will be open but there will be delays and limitations, according to Patrick O'Brien, the special assistant to the Town Manager. Roadway milling and paving will take place during April Vacation week, from April 16 through 20. Questions on the construction can be made to the DPW Department at 508-830-4162 ext. 101.

The Department of Public Works will offer free sand and sand bags to residents beginning Friday at 9 a.m. in preparation for Hurricane Irene
Plymouth’s Department of Public Works will offer empty sandbags and free sand to residents beginning Friday morning in anticipation of Hurricane Irene. Empty sandbags will be available at three Fire Station locations: Cedarville (State Road), Headquarters (Sandwich Street), and West Plymouth (Samoset Street). Residents will be allowed 10 bags per household due to limited availability of the bags. Sand will be available at two transfer stations: Cedarville (Just past the exit, on right at the entrance to DPW Barn) and South Street (on left before the turn into the inner gates).
