More than 200 Attend Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast

More than 200 students, parents, and residents attended the 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast Monday.

More than 200 students, parents, and residents attended the 18th annual  Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast Monday. The breakfast is sponsored each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day by the Plymouth No Place for Hate Committee and the Plymouth area Interfaith Clergy Association. The theme of the event was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the "I have a dream speech" given in Washington DC by Rev. King in 1963. What's Closed on MLK Day?

Here's a list of offices and businesses that are closed today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On Martin Luther King Day, most businesses in Plymouth will be open, but all local, state, and federal government offices will be closed: including Town Hall, all schools, the library, and the Post Office. Many banks will also be closed, but some branches remain open: it's best to call your bank to be sure. If you know of stores that will keep hours on the holiday, be sure to let us know in the comments.

Monday, Jan. 21 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For some, the national holiday honoring the prominent civil rights activist is a time to give back and serve the community, be it through removing graffiti or picking up litter in a local park. For others, it’s an opportunity to educate themselves about King and his life's work. And for others, it’s a time to just kick back and enjoy the prolonged weekend. Plymouth Students Recognized at Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast

The Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast sponsored by the Plymouth No Place for Hate Committee and the Interfaith Clergy Council was held at Plymouth South High School last Monday.

Students were recognized for their winning posters and essays and two high school seniors were named as Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars. Students nominated for the Scholar Award by their schools are students who have participated in activities in or out of school that demonstrate the qualities of respect, compassion and equality associated with Dr. King. Santiago Nario from Plymouth South was recognized for his many activities both in and out of school. He serves as senior class president and president of the International Club. Through his initiative and leadership, a collection of  winter clothing to donate to local shelters was held and a child in Ecuador was sponsored by the International Club. MLK Day is a Time to Celebrate Diversity

No Place for Hate's Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast will be held Monday, Jan. 16 at Plymouth South High School.

The Plymouth No Place For Hate Committee, Plymouth Public Schools and the Plymouth Area Clergy Council are sponsoring a Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast at Plymouth South High School Cafetoria at 8 a.m., Jan. 16.  William Hunt, a member of No Place for Hate, will be the principal speaker. Posters and essays featuring themes of acceptance and diversity drawn and written by Plymouth students will be on display. One students from each gradewill receive a prize book from the No Place for Hate Committee. A senior from each school will receive scholarships from the Plymouth Interfaith Council The Plymouth High School Chorus and the African Methodist Episcopal Church choir will perform.
