Kindergarten Pilot Pushes Ahead

Plymouth's full-day kindergarten pilot is moving ahead according to principals.

Starting in September, Plymouth begins it's experiment with full-day public kindergarten with two classes at the Cold Springs and Hedge schools.  The program, funded by parent tuition, will be a trial balloon to see what might float in Plymouth's future. In spite of a late start, applications were due on May 25, the program received dozens of phone calls and 49 applications from parents interested in putting their children in the program. Forty-two students were selected to fill the classrooms, after several applicants reconsidered citing cost and transportation issues. Wednesday, May 25, is a half-day End of Days The last day of school for Plymouth North and Plymouth South seniors is Friday, May 27. In the Schools: MCAS, Music, and Mother's Day Continued

MCAS and Mid-Term MCAS testing will begin on Tuesday, May 10, for grades three through five. The mid-term date is Friday, May 13. Announcements, Announcements, Announcements Mr. Paladino visits the fifth graders at Nathaniel Morton and West Elementary Monday, May 9. Nathaniel Morton will also be hosting a 100th birthday planning meeting Monday, May 9, in the library, and a PTA meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the library. Kindergarten information sessions will be held at South Elementary Wednesday, May 11, at 6 p.m. and at West Elementary Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday is also early dismissal day at Sacred Heart Elementary at 12:35 p.m. and Rising Tide Charter School at noon. Plymouth to Pilot Full-Day Kindergarten

Full-day kindergarten might become a reality for 40 young students this fall as Plymouth launches a pilot program to fill two classrooms.

Full-day kindergarten might become a reality for 40 young students this Fall as Plymouth launches a pilot program to fill two classrooms. The School Committee approved the program, which will make use of available classrooms at the Hedge and Cold Springs elementary schools. The project was put forward by Cold Springs Principal Laura Dolloff and Hedge Principal Adam Blaisdell to address an education gap in town. Plymouth is currently one of only 33 communities in the Commonwealth that doesn't offer full-day kindergarten to its residence. The proposal would introduce a tuition-based program in the fall that would taken advantage of empty classroom space in the Hedge and Cold Springs schools. Tuition would be capped at $4,000 for the program…
