Plymouth Senior Center Offering Free Tax Preparation

Plymouth seniors can have their taxes prepared free by AARP volunteers between now and April 15.

Now through April 15, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will provide free tax assistance and preparation at the Plymouth Senior Center.  Available to middle-and low-income taxpayers, with special attention given to those 60 and older, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the largest, volunteer-run tax assistance program in the country. To schedule an appointment, call 508-830-4230. "Each of the past two years, we’ve done over 500 people," Director of Elder Affairs Conni DiLego said. "There will be improved computer software this and new volunteers this year." Five Questions for...Jennifer Gurwitch on the Capping-off of the new Senior Center

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the new building? The new senior center was carefully designed by AI3 architects to be user friendly and modern. The building will be more eco-friendly, with an open design, and large windows for natural lighting. The design includes a game room, a ceramics area, and space for a Friends of the Council on Aging gift shop. All activities will take place on the main floor, ground level entrance. There is an elevator providing access to the lower level outdoor courtyard and future senior day care center. The beautiful brick and mortar exterior will blend with the new Plymouth North High School and maintains a style consistent with our New England heritage. Plymouth Selectman helps out on Meals on Wheels Mayors' Day

Plymouth Selectman Matt Muratore recognizes volunteers who deliver Meals on Wheels.

Recently Old Colony Elder Services of Brockton (OCES)  celebrated "Meals on Wheels Mayors' Day." Traditionally a day when the Mayor of Brockton goes out into the community to deliver a few Meals on Wheels to seniors. This year however, OCES decided to celebrate in other communities and enlisted the help of Plymouth Selectman Mathew Muratore and COA Board member and long time Meals on Wheels volunteer Rick Caproni. Together they delivering a nutritious lunch to artist and resident Dorothy Halunen, who appeared to enjoy the visit very much. OCES provides more than 600 meals weekly to Plymouth residents, with extra meals for holidays or inclemet weather. These meals are graciously delivered by a large and compassionate group of Council on …

Eel River Watershed Appeals Plymouth's Wastewater Permit

Selectmen's notes: The COA gets a new member. The Eel River Watershed is appealing the town's permit to dump nitrogen into the river. 36 apply for DPW director job.

The Eel River Watershed Association has appealed the state permit under which the town's wastewater treatment plant operates on the grounds that the sewer treatment plant dumps more nitrogen into the Eel River that it can handle. Town Manager Mark Stankiewicz said the state Department of Environmental Protection would defend its own permit in court. 36 applications for DPW Director Stankiewicz has received 36 applications for the position of DPW Director. He told the board that he expects to hire a new director by late February.
