Work on Sagamore Bridge Begins Tuesday

Travel over Sagamore Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning Tuesday and will continue through May, except for two weekends.

Steel repairs on the Sagamore Bridge spanning the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, Mass., are scheduled to start, weather permitting, tomorrow, March 20, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials. During the scheduled time for repair, travel over the Sagamore Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Traffic control will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through mid-to late-May (except for two weekends) to perform work above the road surface on the Sagamore Bridge. Motorists planning to use the Sagamore Bridge during this timeframe should be aware that travel delays are likely to occur during the morning and afternoon peak travel periods each day. Seawall Fix will Cost $5,400 per Foot

Selectmen learn fixing the Plymouth Beach seawall will cost $1.9 million.

Town Manager Mark Stankiewicz opened Monday night's Selectmen's meeting with tough news. The initial assessment to repair the seawall at Plymouth Long Beach is $1.5 to $1.9 million. According to the brief report, 50 percent of the 700-foot long wall needs replacement or repair. That means repairs will cost aproximately $5,400 per foot. The breach of the wall during the Boxing Day storm only served as a warning of the bad condition of most of the wall. "It's been undermined over the years," Stankiewicz said.
