Senator Murray Chairs South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease

Senate President Therese Murray will serve as honorary chair of the 2012 South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer's.

South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s is an annual event that aims to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place at on Water Street in Plymouth, Saturday, Sept. 29.

"I am honored to take part in this important event," Murray said. "The Alzheimer’s Association makes a tremendous difference in the lives of those with this degenerative and incurable disease and, together, we can raise the funds needed to press forward with critical research and care."

"We are very pleased that Senate President Therese Murray is joining the fight against Alzheimer’s," said James Wessler, President/CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter. "Her leadership will inspire others to get involved. Funds raised will provide care and support services to our families, friends and neighbors affected by Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to cutting edge research that is critical to putting an end to the disease."

The South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be one of eight walks held throughout the Commonwealth in September 2012. Last year’s events drew 18,000 participants and raised a total of $2.3 million.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser, held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, is the world’s largest fundraising and public awareness event dedicated to fighting Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer’s Association, a donor-supported organization, is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
