Jordan Hospital Club's 5th Annual Kayla's Beat Goes On 5k Walk/Run

Kayla's Beat Goes On benefits The BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital.

Saturday, Oct. 1,  2011, the Jordan Hospital Club is sponsoring the 5th Annual Kayla's Beat Goes On. This 5K Walk/Run is held in memory of Kayla Richards. Last year, runners and sponsors raised $37,000 for the Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department at Jordan.

In the spirit of Kayla, the proceeds raised this year will go to the The BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to contribute to the Initiative for Excellence in Maternal and Child Health Care at Jordan Hospital.

The BirthPlace strives to answer the call for quality, family centered care close to home. Under the guidance of Dr. Brigid McCue the BirthPlace has moved to a “laborist” model of care, bringing the patient and her family into the care team, so that together, the patients, their families, providers and nurses achieve the safest and most satisfying labor environment possible.

The BirthPlace has welcomed many additional practioners in the last few months including Dr. Russell Atkin, Kathryn Atkins, Ob/Gyn Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Shannon Fullerton, Dr. Lara Kingston, and South Shore Midwifery and Gynocology. The BirthPlace maintains a close affiliation with Tufts Medical Center.  Dr. Terri Marino, a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist, and Dr. Laurie Konowitz, a neonatologist, are both Tufts physicians with a strong presence at Jordan.

As can be attested to by thousands of families, the experienced, caring, remarkable nurses provide the strength and attractiveness of the BirthPlace to the Jordan community. The time and effort given to the patients rises above and beyond expectation. Elizabeth York and her dedicated colleagues, together with patients and providers, create an unparalleled option for families.
