Parade

The annual Independence Day parade steps off at Mayflower Business Park at 9:30 a.m.

It will travel south on Court and Main streets, turning left onto Water Street and ending in front of Plymouth Rock.

Concert

The Legion Bud Band will perform a free concert on the waterfront. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Fireworks

Funding has been secured for fireworks this year. The show will start between 9 and 9:15 p.m., depending on the night sky. The fireworks are set off from a barge on Plymouth Harbor and can be seen from a number of vantage points.

July 4 Traffic Restrictions

(click for more info on parking and road closures)

Skateboarders, rollerbladers, and cyclists will not be able to ride downtown following the fireworks next Thursday in order to protect pedestrians.

Parking

Parade visitors are reminded that Court Street and Main Street are closed off as the parade winds its way into town. Parking for the fireworks is always a challenge. Visitors are strongly urged to keep their automobiles out of the interior of the downtown/waterfront area, as congestion makes leaving the area at the end of the fireworks very tough. Please pay attention to all posted “NO PARKING” signs, as illegally parked cars WILL BE TOWED. We recommend that you park further out, and walk into the celebration area. Residents are also reminded that at the conclusion of the fireworks, all main roads leading out of town (Court Street, Main Street, Route 44, Summer Street and Sandwich Street) will run both lanes one-way. There will be no way to get INTO the downtown/waterfront district at that time.

Bicyclists are always welcome, but all bikes must be walked on the waterfront between Union Street and Bradford Street.

Tips for surviving Independence Day

  • Check the forecast: If you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes. Take an umbrella seeing as thunderstorms have been a daily occurrence lately, and of course sunblock.
  • Dress appropriately: If you plan on spending the whole day downtown make sure to take a light jacket and pants. It tends to get chilly on the waterfront at night. Wear a hat or buy a crazy one from the street vendors to keep the sun off your face.
  • Wear comfy shoes: You'll be walking a lot that day, so wear shoes that can go the distance.
  • Take food and extra water. There are plenty of places to get great seafood and drinks, but the kids will always be hungry so take along some snacks and water.
  • Blanket or chairs, and entertainment for the kids. It's a long day and the kids could get bored waiting for the fireworks. Take along lawn chairs or a blanket, and some quiet games for the kids.
  • Bugspray! Don't leave home without it.
