School Should Open Wednesday

After two days of cancelled classes, Plymouth schools should be open Wednesday after minimal damage from Hurricane Sandy.

Plymouth Schools Superintendant Gary Maestas said school buildings sustained little damage from Hurricane Sandy Monday and that school will be open Wednesday.

"We've had two days cancelled and we haven't even starte the snow season," Maestas said Tuesday.

With five snow days built into the school calendar, a bad winter could mean adding even more days, Maestas said.

Plymouth cancelled school for Monday late Sunday. Tuesday was cancelled late Monday night as administrators received reports about conditions at Plymouth's 13 school buildings.

"Our concern is we get the kids to and from school safely," Maestas said.

Monday, South Elementary lost power and other buildings had trouble with computer systems, but so far, the only damage has been caused by the wind, and that has been minor.

"At North some flags were torn by high winds, but (we've had) nothing structural. I think we're fortunate," Maestas said.
