Adjusted MCAS Math Scores Result in Perfect Scores

Earlier this month, a Newton high school student discovered that something was wrong with the way was MCAS math test was scored, resulting in higher performance levels for more than 3,000 students across the state.

It also resulted in two students at Plymouth North earning perfect scores in math.

Project Plymouth

The 8th grade students in Mr. Hall's Civics class at Plymouth South Middle School are currently working on a yearlong service project titled "Project Plymouth". Over the course of this school year the students will come up with an idea for a project that can improve the town of Plymouth. In their civics and problem solving class the students will then research and create a plan mapping out what it will take to achieve their goal. Finally the entire class will put this plan into action and complete the project. The groups are currently using the new 3rd floor Mac Lab to create a presentation to "sell" their idea to the rest of the students. The final project will be announced in the near future.

North recognized for Sportsmanship

Plymouth North has received the ACL Sportsmanship Award for the school year 2010 - 2011.  At the end of each season the Head Coaches within the Atlantic Coast League vote for a Sportsmanship Award in their sport.  At the end of the year all sports are tallied to find a school winner.  Not only does North do well in competition, they do it with class.

South students walk to raise money for Breast Cancer research

On Sunday, October 2nd, 22 Cosmetology students rose very early to attend the Boston Strides for Cancer Walk at the Esplanade in Boston. They didn't use their feet to raise the money, they used their hands. For $10, participants could enhance their already spirited pink costumes with shiney pink hair tinsel. The students used team work and their charming customer service techniques to add $690 to the fundraiser. This was an outstanding example of compassion and the future cosmetologists saw how their efforts could make a difference.

The Cosmetology students have been busy lending their hands to a very worthy cause. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the students have been fundraising during lunches by adding 3 strands of colorful pink tinsel or "Pink Hair Bling" to students' hair for a $1 donation. All proceeds will benefit Strides for Cancer, and American Cancer Society sponsored walk. So far, the girls have raised almost $100, and this effort will continue throughout the entire month of October.
