Milford Still Has Flu Shots, But Pharmacies Running Out

Milford pharmacies had such demand for the flu shot this week that several ran out by Friday. The shot is still available locally.

People who didn't get the flu shot earlier in the season have rushed into Milford pharmacies this week.

The flu season is one of the worst in years, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And Boston, on Wednesday, made national headlines when it declared a public health emergency. About 45,000 of the city's residents will be getting automated calls today, encouraging them to get the flu shot.

In Milford, several pharmacies have run out, but more is on order. The shot is still available in town, through people's doctors, and several commercial pharmacies. Demand remains strong.

One Milford business, which still has the shot available in its pharmacy, reported that five people wanted it in the first two hours of business Friday.

As of noon Friday, the flu shot was still available in the following businesses:

  • Stop & Shop Pharmacy, 196 E. Main St.
  • Target Pharmacy, 250 Fortune Blvd.
  • Walgreen's, 91 Prospect St. (just a few left, more on order for Monday)

Four local pharmacies ran out of the flu shot by Friday, but more is on order and should begin arriving as soon as this afternoon.

  • Rite Aid, 5 Medway Rd., more flu shots should be available Monday or Tuesday.
  • CVS, 137 S. Main St., only the intradermal shot is available, which is not covered by many health insurance plans. The regular flu shot should be available this afternoon.
  • CVS, 50 Medway Rd., more flu shots should be available by Thursday or Friday next week.
  • Rite Aid, 98 Prospect St., more flu shots should be available Monday.
