UPDATE: Power Restored to South Plymouth

NSTAR says power was be restored at 3 p.m.

NSTAR officials say power was restored at 3 p.m. today.

A lightning strike knocked out power to 1,700 customers in Plymouth this morning and shut down the Manomet Transfer Station.

"This is a very labor-intensive repair work because several hundred feet of wire need to be replaced and the location where we are working is extremely difficult to access due to the rugged terrain," NSTAR spokesman Caroline Pretyman said.

Eight crews are working on repairs and Pretyman said power should be restored around 3 p.m.

Manomet Transfer Station is only taking white items at this time, such as refrigerators and TVs. All other items are being accepted at Cedarville Transfer Station.
