According to reports, a man was spotted around 2:30 p.m. placing a backpack under the portable stage in Pilgrim Memorial State Park, near Plymouth Rock.

Police have identified the man as a local homeless person, who told police he was storing the backpack, containing personal belongings, under the stage because he had no where else to put it.

Police do not believe the backpack poses a threat, but are waiting for confirmation from members of the State Police bomb squad. Water Street is closed from Brewster to Union streets in the interim.
