Hingham Police arrested two men found stealing copper from the Hingham Middle School construction site early Sunday morning.

An officer on duty at the school Sunday morning noticed a section of the fence was cut and had been pulled back to allow access into the site, according to police Sgt. Steven Dearth.  When the officer checked the site he spotted a man who claimed to be a construction worker.

The man said “I’m just gathering my tools and I will be with you in a second." He then ignored the officer and continued out of sight, Dearth said.

The officer soon noticed another man running and then spotted a shopping cart full of cut copper along with tools.
