More than 20 Displaced After Tide View Path Fire

Red Cross volunteers say two families were taken to a local emergency shelter while two firefighters and one police officer suffered were being treated for injuries in the four-alarm fire Saturday morning.

Four residents and two firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting a fire that struck a Tide View Path apartment building early Saturday morning.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Young, the cause seems to be a combination of smoking and home oxygen use.

American Red Cross volunteers at the scene said about two dozen people have been displaced by the fire today at 4 Tideview Path, according to Kat Powers, director of communications for the American Red Cross of Eastern Mass.

The Red Cross says 11 of the 12 units in the building were occupied.

Two families were transported to a town emergency shelter. Some persons at the scene have been hospitalized.

The Red Cross is offering immediate shelter to three men living at the building; two are being offered financial assistance with food and clothing as well.

"Anyone needing assistance -- a place to stay, a way to figure out how to replace bedding lost in the fire, someone to talk to after such a dramatic event -- is encouraged to call our toll free 1-800-564-1234 line for help. Our mission is to alleviate suffering, and sometimes the need appears the day after a dramatic event," Powers said.

Two residents were hospitalized; one officer and two firefighters are being treated.

As many as 10 trucks were called to the four-alarm blaze in the 12-unit building, which started in a ground floor apartment at around 3 a.m., according to Young told the Manomet Current. All of the building’s residents were evacuated. They are being provided shelter by the Red Cross.
