Family of Plymouth Woman Pulled From Burning Car Searching for Rescuers

The family of a Plymouth woman pulled from a burning car on Route 3 in October is hoping to honor the six people who rescued her.

The family of a Plymouth woman who was pulled from a burning car on Route 3 in October is trying to identify the passersby who saved her life.

Amy Stanley's family hopes to honor the six people they believe helped free her from her seat as flames erupted from her car in Rockland, Oct. 22. The family has organized a benefit to recognize her rescuers and raise money to help pay Stanley's continued medical expenses, according to WCVB Channel 5

Stanley, the widow of an Army specialist killed in Iraq in 2006, was able to return home the Friday before Christmas, but is still receiving physical therapy, her family said.

Fire officials said Stanley crashed onto the Route 3 median sometime before 7 a.m. Oct. 22 and was pinned between her dashboard and seat. As flames crept towards her, an off-duty Chelsea fire captain and several passersby ran toward the burning car and tried desperately to open a door and free the woman trapped inside.

Dana Canniff, the wife of one of Stanley’s cousins, told the Patriot Ledger that Stanley’s family has identified two people involved in the rescue, including the Chelsea fire captain, but believe there may have been as many as four others. They are hoping to honor all six “heroes” at the benefit Jan. 19.
