Nuclear Regulatory Commission Plans Webinar on Pilgrim Dry Cask Storage

An information session about dry cask storage is planned for THursday, Dec. 12.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will present a webinar about the planned dry cask storage of spent nuclear fuel at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12.

Construction is under way on a concrete pad that will hold the dry cask stooge units in Plymouth. There are plans to move loaded casks to the pad in the summer of 2014.

The webinar will explain how dry cask storage works and how the NRC regulates it.

“There has been interest among members of the public in the vicinity of the Pilgrim plant about the use of dry cask storage at the site,” said Bill Dean, Administrator of the NRC Region I Office. “Our hope is that this webinar will be helpful in providing information to the public on this topic.”

Online registration is available at www.nrc.gov.
