Here's a list of upcoming events at the Manomet Branch Library, from a celebration of hot chocolate to a writers' workshop.

Hot Chocolate: From Ancient Times to Today

Hot chocolate has been a favorite beverage for centuries! Join us at the Manomet Branch Library, 12 Strand Avenue, at 2:30 p.m. ,Saturday, Feb. 9, for a program celebrating hot chocolate. Learn more about the history of hot chocolate and sample some cocoas with special flavorings. Also, learn how to make your own instant cocoa mix to keep on hand for cold winter nights. Nonfiction History Book Discussion at the Manomet Branch Library

History enthusiasts are encouraged to join us for an engaging discussion of important topics of the past at our History Book Group. The group meets one Thursday a month at 4 p.m. to discuss the month’s selection. For February, the group is talking about the last three parts of 1421: The Year China Discovered America by Gavin Menzies Feb. 21 at the Manomet Branch Library, 12 Strand Avenue. Copies of the book are available one month prior at the branch library. This program is free and open to new members. Fourth Annual Cupid’s Confections Challenge

Everyone is invited to sample and vote for their favorite treats in the Fourth Annual Cupid’s Confections Challenge at the Plymouth Public Library, 132 South Street, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. The Junior Friends will be offering many delicious treats; past challenges have included cookies, cupcakes and chocolate dipped fruit. There will be a guessing jar filled with Hershey’s Kisses to raise money for the Young Adult collection at the library. One guess will be $1 or 6 guesses for $5. The person closest to the total number of kisses without going over will win the entire jar. Should there be any concerns about food allergies, please contact the Manomet Branch Librarian with your questions; each Junior Friend competitor will provide an ingredient list upon request.

The Junior Friends of the Plymouth Public Library is a library organization for young adults interested in participating in library activities, volunteering for library events, having a voice in what the library offers young people, earning community service hours for school or church and/or just having fun!  Each year the Junior Friends help out at the library book sales and with children’s events, plus plan and put on four or five events for children and teens throughout the academic year.

Join the Junior Friends of the Plymouth Public Library

Teens and tweens, age 11 to 18 years old, are invited to join the Junior Friends of the Plymouth Public Library, 132 South Street, for a meeting in the board room at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6. It is a library organization for young adults interested in participating in library activities, volunteering for library events, having a voice in what the library offers young people, earning community service hours for school or church and/or just having fun! Each year the Junior Friends help out at the library book sales and with children’s events, plus plan and put on four or five events for children and teens throughout the academic year. Writer’s Workshop and Open Mic at the Manomet Branch Library

Calling all writers, poets and spoken word performers to attend a writer’s workshop and open mic session at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Manomet Branch Library, 12 Strand Avenue. The writer’s workshop will begin at 7 p.m. and last for half an hour. During this time, writers will be encouraged to share their work and receive helpful criticism before participating in the open mic at 7:30 p.m. The open mic portion will last until 8:15 p.m. or for as long as we have performers. You are welcome to attend both or choose the part of the evening that interests you most. Attendance at the workshop is not required for participation in the open mic. Teen Writer’s Group at Plymouth Public Library

Teen authors and poets are encouraged to join the Teen Writer’s Group at the Main Library, 132 South Street, Plymouth, at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12 for a discussion of writing and some creative writing exercises. Take along some of your work to share with the group and receive helpful feedback to strengthen your writing. Sharing is not mandatory. This program is free and open to new members.
