BRAINTREE and KINGSTON, MA, ISSUED MARCH 24, 2014…Matt Lanza, Executive Vice President of H. J. Knight International Insurance Agency (www.knightint.com), a leading full service brokerage firm  specializing in insurance and risk management solutions, recently led a seminar at the 2014  International LCT (Limousine, Charter & Tour) and National Limousine Association convention held in Las Vegas, NV.

The show, held February 16 to 18 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, drew thousands of limousine, tour and charter operators and exhibiting suppliers. Celebrating its 30th year, the International LCT Show is regarded as the biggest convention for limousine, charter and tour operators in the world. It is considered the premier destination for operators around the globe seeking education, product showcases and peer-to-peer networking.

Lanza was chosen to lead a seminar, “Own Your Insurance Company – Captive Insurance Planning,” for attendees as part of the educational programs.  The seminar addressed the tax, legal and regulatory information on structuring, implementing and operating a carrier’s own captive insurance program. Topics covered included business reasons for forming a captive insurance company, a review of IRS provisions for captives, meeting the risk distribution test through third party risk, investments of a captive, distribution of captive profits and liquidation.

“This was a great opportunity to educate individuals in the transportation industry about the benefits of captives,” said Lanza, a Kingston resident, who also added, “This creative risk transfer technique can significantly benefit not only the company, but it’s individual owners (s) whose loss experience and commitment to safety is better than their industry counterparts.   The cost of insurance for the transportation industry has always been a difficult line item to manage as a business owner and therefore has constantly warranted creative risk management solutions and the captive concept has filled that role for many companies.”
