Little Wanderers Recognizes Levine for Work in Plymouth

The Home for Little Wanderers recently honored Hanson resident Gina Levine, a Direct Care Supervisor at the non-profit’s Southeast Campus in Plymouth, with an Employee of the Year Award. The award, honoring dedication and hard work, was received by only ten recipients of the organization’s 600 employees and announced during an event at Fenway Park.

“Gina has the ability to work with special needs children and turn learning into an adventure —enticing students with fun lessons,” according to Kaitlyn Brosnan, Program Director at The Home for Little Wanderers’ Southeast Campus. “Kids come to The Home for so many reasons, but almost all of them are facing tough situations that threaten their well-being. Gina has shown them true empathy, whether it’s giving them advice, sitting with them during tough times, or giving them an opportunity to express their emotions through art.”

While Levine wears many hats at The Home’s Southeast Campus — including running Ropes Course and being a Life Guard in the summer — she may be best known by many throughout The Home for her artistic abilities working with kids in the Voices and Visions therapeutic art program. For more than 20 years, Voices and Visions has allowed youth in The Home’s residential programs to use their imagination to deal with their emotions through art by creating masterpieces that go on display at the child welfare agencies signature fundraiser, the Voices & Visions gala. This spring Levine and her students are creating pieces on the theme of “I Dream a World” for the gala at the Seaport World Trade Center on May 21, 2014.

According to Levine, “my clients have taught me more about life and compassion than any psychology course I have ever taken.”
