Shop Locally in Plymouth on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on.

American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Plymouth.

"The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce supports small business Saturday efforts and our goal is to get as many local businesses to participate as possible," Executive DirectorPlymouth Area Chamber of Commerce Denis Hanks said. "This marks the third year in a row that we have supported the efforts.

Hanks said chamber membership is comprised predominately of small businesses that are home-based sole proprietorships, or small corporations with less than 10 employees.

"These small businesses are the true backbone of our local economy. We hope that local residents support these small business owners during this holiday season which in turn supports our friends and neighbors."

Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities.
