Nix's Plymouth Offers Local and Seasonal New England Fare

Nix's Plymouth on Town Wharf is a southern outpost of Nix's Mate in Boston.

The sign at Nix’s says it was established in 2012, but granted in 1636.

Nix’s Plymouth is a southern outpost of Nix’s Mate located near Faneuil Hall in Boston, so the dates line up with the settling of that town, and the opening of the first restaurant.

With views of Plymouth Harbor, and a menu inspired as much by the New England coast as southern barbeque, Nix’s Plymouth offers a new turn on New England seasonal fare.

“Heading into the summer season, Nix’s Plymouth is the South Shore’s top destination for polished-yet-fun food, handcrafted cocktails, local & craft beers, a broad wine selection, outdoor dining on the patio, raw bar, live music from local ands and DJs, and dancing,” general manager Greg Mitchell said in June.

Nix’s Plymouth is located at 6 Town Wharf and offers lunch and dinner, as well as a large and unique cocktail menu.  The restaurant offers a raw bar with Island Creek Oysters (when available), and a full menu of seafood, flat bread pizzas (called “flats” on the menu), and barbeque.

Nix’s also offers linguini and clams, fried fish tacos, fish n chips, an “Island Platter” of fried scallops, clams, haddock, house fries, “Nix’s slaw,” and tartar sauce, and a warm lobster roll on a brioche roll.

There are also specials, which change nightly: one of which was the lobster pomodoro with tomatoes, pappardelle sauce, fresh spinach, and topped with a deep fried lobster tail.

The drink specials include the “Plymouth Smash” made with Stoli Blueberi vodka, blueberry puree, lemon juice and fresh blueberries, and the “Moscow Mule” with Kettle One vodka, lime, mint, simple syrup, and ginger beer. Nix’s also has a large selection of beer and wine.

Table servers are helpful, offering suggestions and willing to take special orders or changes from the menu.

There are also several dessert offerings: such as the lemon blueberry tartlet: fresh lemon curd, brandied blueberry conserve, and candied lemon on a shortbread crush; and “Nix’s Shake:” black porter and malt powder in a glass rimmed with sweet cocoa. Nix’s also offers bread pudding, a berry cobbler, a cookie ice cream sandwich, and s’mores: chocolate mousse and toasted marshmallow on a graham cracker base.

Nix’s offers indoor and outdoor dining options as well as a large bar.

The restaurant is open seven days a week, offers live music several nights a week, reservations or walk-ins, and rentals.
