Entergy Layoffs Won't Impact Pilgrim Operations, Company Says

Entergy, the owner of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station will lay off 30 employees by the end of the year, but guarantees that they will not impact plant operations.

The move is part of a plan to increase efficiency throughout the company, which will result in about 800 layoffs throughout the company, but mainly in Louisiana where Entergy's main office is located.

"We will be reducing the workforce by about 30 positions, about 4 percent of current work force," Terry Young, a spokesman for Entergy in Louisiana, said.

All departments will be affected, but Young said operations and maintenance at Pilgrim will not be impacted.

"What we've done, is we've taken this opportunity to redesign the entire nuclear work structure," Young said. "We're optimizing the most efficient structure and using that as a template for allow our nuclear plants."

That means less people will essentially doing the same amount of work

The restructuring is unrelaated to last year's strike that resulted in more than 100 employees picketing outside Pilgrim for more than three weeks, Young said.
