Bites Nearby: IHOP

The International House of Pancakes arrives in Plymouth.

Plymouth residents now have another dining option with the May 2 opening of an IHOP at The Shops at 5 plaza off Long Pond Road, which replaces the Uno Chicago Grill.

IHOP is a family restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to Terry Case,  vice president of operations for Mr. Stax Inc., which operates 52 IHOPs in the U.S., including the Plymouth location. It serves "good food with good service at a great value," he said.

The menu offers a wide variety of foods, from pancakes, waffles and omelets for breakfast, to salads, sandwiches, burgers and steaks for lunch and dinner, Case explained. Patrons may order breakfast, lunch and dinner at any time of the day and everything on the menu may be wrapped to go.

Pancake varieties include Cinn-A-Stack, New York Cheesecake and Harvest Grain 'N Nut. French toast flavors include cinnamon apple and whole wheat with banana slices. Another option is the crepes, with varieties such as Nutella, Swedish and Chicken Florentine.

Other breakfast choices are a chicken fajita omelet, country fried steak and eggs and biscuits and gravy.

Sandwiches like the Philly Cheese Steak Stacker and the Pot Roast Melt, and entrees like the Grilled Tilapia Hollandaise round out IHOP's offerings.

IHOP's pancake recipe is a "secret formula," Case tells, and the pancakes have won awards for their quality. IHOP, which has been around for over fifty years, also has the distinction of being number one in family dining.

The menu features a senior and a children's section. All of the children's items have less than 600 calories, Case noted, and there are also Simple & Fit dishes throughout the menu that are under 600 calories.

Breakfast and lunch specials start at $4.99, Case said. On Tuesday nights, kids eat free with an adult, and on Wednesday nights, seniors will receive half-priced entrees with the purchase of a drink.

Case pointed to the company's motto of "Come Hungry. Leave Happy." to sum up the IHOP experience, adding that he would like customers to "get service as good as our pancakes."

IHOP is located at 10 Shops at 5 Way and is open Sunday through Thursday 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. until 12 a.m. Call 774-773-7193 for takeout.
