Massachusetts drivers get a bad rap.

They say we weave in and out of traffic and we’re too aggressive. Yes, we don’t like to stay in the same lane and it’s true we like to cut in front of people when trying to exit highways.

The site's rankings are based on statistics pulled from several sources, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association, and Mothers Against Drink Driving.

The insurance site looked at vehicle fatalities, drunk driving, tickets and the failure to obey driving laws.

Massachusetts had the lowest rate of fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in the country. It also ranked well in the area of careless driving.

However, the commonwealth did not rank so well in drunk driving. Massachusetts had some of the worst numbers in the country. The plus side is that means police are cracking down on drunk drivers, but it also means there are a lot of drunk drivers on Bay State roads.

Who are the worst drivers in the country? Car Insurance Comparison ranked the 10 worst, which includes many southern states:

1. Louisiana

2. South Carolina

3. Mississippi

4. Texas

5. Alabama

6. Florida

7. Missouri

8. North Carolina

9. Montana

10. North Dakota

The best drivers by far are in Vermont, according to the survey. The Green Mountain State drivers ranked in the top 10 in four out of five categories.
