Does the Emergency Shelter Allow Pets?

The power is out, it's cold and dark. You decide to go to the local emergency shelter, but can you take Fido and Whiskers? Patch asked Plymouth's Emergency Operations Director

Victor and Marie Burchfield

If we had to go to PSMS for emergency shelter, are we allowed to bring our 14 pound dog?

After receiving this comment in our Storm Information Center, Patch decided to find the answer.

According to Aaron Wallace, the director of Plymouth's Emergency Operations Center, the shelter at Plymouth South Middle School does not accommodate pets.

"A regional shelter will be opened tomorrow which will support pet accommodations,  I just spoke with the American Red Cross.  The location for the regional shelter has yet to be determined at this time, ARC is evaluating.

"Carver High School at 60 South Meadow Road is a Pet-Friendly Shelter,  and is currently open."

Wallace added that residents can call 211 with any question related to the storm. 211 provides information about community services and will be able to direct you to any emergency service, including the nearest shelter that accepts pets.
