Did You Feel the Earthquake?

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Maine Tuesday night; did you feel anything?

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit southwest of Lake Arrowhead, Maine, at approximately 7:12 p.m. Tuesday night.  Lake Arrowhead is about 30 miles west of Portland. The quake was felt in the Plymouth area and southern New England.

We're checking on the status of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, and will update this story when we hear anything.

UPDATE Entergy spokesman Carol Wightman said Pilgrim is fine after tonight's earthquake. "We did not feel earthquake at the plant. No seismic equipment at the plant alarmed or recorded any seismic activity. We are following our procedures and doing physical walkdowns of plant equipment and there is no damage to the plant or equipment."

Did you feel the earthquake? Please tell us what you felt (or didn't feel) by entering your comment in the box below.

I thought it was a sudden squall out of no where. We are on Bay Shore Drive by the bay. I thought a car hit the house, the walls jolted and windows rattled. We went outside to see if there was a car out there! Then we heard there was a quake.

I live in W. Plymouth and felt the floors move and the walls shake as if a blast of wind was coming through. It lasted about 10 secs. total. Wild!

Any leaks at the power plant?

Hi Tom, I asked last night. The plant's equipment didn't even register the quake and it did not cause any damage.

If regular folk felt something it is disconcerting to hear that no seismic activity wad detected synthesis plant location That should be extra sensitive equipment. Hello?!

I would hope the plant equipment would be at least as sensitive as people are. I have come to my family home in Manomet (7 generations) ancient am very concerned. Please do not keep rejecting mh comment.

Hi Tucker, the plant has experienced other earthquakes in recent years, most recently last year, that were less powerful than the 4.0-magnitude Tuesday.
