Damaging Winds to Move in Wednesday Night

A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines and cause scattered blackouts, warns the National Weather Service.

A high wind warning was issued today by the NWS's Taunton for eastern Massachusetts, including Plymouth, because the south-southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected between 2 and 9 a.m. Thursday.

A high wind warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are expected for at least an hour, with custs of 58 mph or greater at any time. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, and power outages are likely. The NWS encourages residents to secure any loose outdoor object because unsecured objects could be damaged or become airborne. Flying objects could become hazards for motorists and pedestrians as well as structures.
