Second time around. Plymouth Turkey Trot partners again with MYTEAM TRIUMPH – Cape Cod for Thanksgiving Day road race in America’s hometown

Last year several runners from MYTEAM TRIUMPH-Cape Cod, a 501(c)3 Charity, took part in the Plymouth Turkey Trot, a five-mile race held on Thanksgiving morning, starting from Plymouth Rock at the historic Plymouth waterfront. Organizers of the Plymouth Turkey Trot recently announced a renewed partnership, waiting the $27 entry fee for myTEAM TRIUMPH-Cape Cod runners who wish to participate in the second annual Plymouth Turkey Trot on November 28.

MYTEAM TRIUMPH (MTT) is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. MYTEAM Triumph provides all the equipment needed to allow these individuals to participate, including boats and harnesses for the swim, trailers for the bike and chairs for the run.

“Running is as much about inspiration as perspiration. The motivation we have to set a goal and accomplish it not only inspires you as an individual, but other runners and people at the race. And that feeling is even more pronounced with wheelchair runners,” said Steve Dubin, a spokesperson for the Plymouth Turkey Trot and the Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk. “We are delighted to have MYTEAM TRIUMPH runners back to further add to the inspiration that already exists within the Plymouth Turkey Trot.”

The participants with disabilities are known as "Captains," and the athletes who have the honor of pushing and pulling the Captains on the course are called their "Angels." MTT helps these competitors to participate in following events:

  • Triathlons
  • 10Ks
  • 5Ks
  • Marathons
  • Half Marathons

“Our runners are thrilled to be back for a second year to participate in the Plymouth Turkey Trot,” said Marry Liz Nogueras, executive director of MYTEAM TRIUMPH – Cape Cod. “Our Captains and Angels are ecstatic about getting another opportunity to run where Thanksgiving began in America’s hometown of Plymouth.”

The second annual Plymouth Turkey Trot starts at Memorial Park at Plymouth Rock at 7:45am. The five-mile course offers scenic views of the Plymouth’s picturesque oceanfront, and passes several historical sites including the aforementioned National Monument to the Forefathers, as well as Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and The Mayflower. The cost to register is $27. Prizes will be awarded to men’s and women’s winners in several age groups.

The Turkey Trot is not the only Thanksgiving Day morning race. The fourth annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk kicks off from the Village Racquet and Fitness Center, at Pine Hills, 30 Gold Drive, Plymouth at 10:15 a.m. rain or shine, also on Thanksgiving morning. The course includes the oldest road in America, Old Sandwich Road. This race site was the original trail used by Pilgrims and Native Americans in the 1600’s as they traveled from Plymouth to Sandwich, Mass. Cost is $27.

For those who want to participate in both races, there’s the 2013 Second Helping Challenge. The Challenge enables runners to sign up for both races at a reduced rate of $40. Running both races earns runners a permanent listing on the Second Helping’s “Couch of Fame and on Plymouth Rock Racing’s Facebook as well as an exclusive and awesome Second Helping sweatshirt.

The top three combined time winners for both men’s and women’s divisions will receive a cool prize and trophy. Prizes will also be awarded to top Second Helping participants in the following age groups: 15 and under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over.
