Plymouth receives grants for school security, airport safety equipment

In recognition for its commitment to safety and controlling costs, the Town of Plymouth was awarded a $2,760 loss control grant for school security upgrades and a $2,240 loss control grant for safety equipment for use at the local airport. Plymouth received the grants from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), which provides property and casualty insurance to the town.

With the new school security system, the town will add an extra measure of safety and security at local schools, protect students and employees, and help ensure peace of mind of staff, parents and local officials. The new system will also help protect facilities from theft and vandalism – mitigating potential future property and financial losses.

New safety equipment at Plymouth Municipal Airport includes a dolly to help employees more safety move 55-gallon drums (without causing back injuries and strains); eye wash stations to be used in case of fuel splashes or dust/particle injuries; safety floor mats to prevent slips and falls; a first aid kit for the maintenance hangar and administration building; spill kits for clean-up of fuel or chemical accidents; and safety mirrors to maximize employee line of sight when driving vehicles around airport property.

“As always, Plymouth is pleased to participate in the MIIA rewards program,” noted Town Manager Melissa Arrighi. “Not only does this program provide training and education for town staff members, it also gives back to the community through real savings.”

MIIA awards loss control grants to its member municipalities to fund equipment purchases and implement training programs that address safety and loss prevention issues. These proactive efforts help protect the town, its employees and citizens by avoiding accidents and potentially costly claims.
