Fore! Southers Marsh Golf Club opens for the season. Course tees off the new year with two major awards.

What could be a better way to open for the course for the season?

Southers Marsh Golf Club unveils the 2014 season March 22, weather permitting.  The seasonal launch coincides with two recent accolades. Southers Marsh was named #1 Public Golf Value in Massachusetts for the 10th year in a row by New England Golf Guide.  Additionally, the Boston Globe ranked Southers Marsh among the Top 50 places to work.

“It’s the berried,” noted Will Stearns patriarch of the family owned course and amiable host to golfing guests.  “We are delighted with the recognition and just as thrilled that the golfing public and our employees really enjoy the Southers Marsh experience.  We are serious about fun.”

Southers Marsh Golf Club is an 18-hole, public, executive-style golf course that plays like a championship layout. The New England Golf guide has rated Southers Marsh the number one value of all public golf courses in Massachusetts, every year from 2005-2014. Players get the golf, course conditions, and service expected at a resort course without the corporate feel, lengthy time commitment, or expense.

The History of Southers Marsh Golf Club

Opened in July 2001, Southers Marsh was built on the beautiful upland around the Stearns family's 100 year old producing cranberry bogs, as a way to keep the space open and in the family when the cranberry industry collapsed in the late 90's. Emboldened by our experience with a homemade 5-hole course built for friends and family in 1995, the family hired Dahn Tibbett to shape the "new course" and handled the rough earth moving and irrigation ourselves. Many of those on the construction crew still remain at the course, pouring their hearts and souls into it on a daily basis.

Southers Marsh Experience

The seven par 4's and eleven par 3's will force golfers to use every club in your bag. Even the most accomplished golfers will be challenged, but four sets of tees ensure that golfers of all abilities will be able to enjoy themselves. The venue also offers a 300-yard driving range and a full service restaurant with a beautiful mahogany deck overlooking the course, a private and picturesque spot for weddings and functions, where Southers Marsh also been voted Best Place for an Event three years running. Above all, Southers Marsh features a relaxed, fun-oriented atmosphere where everyone always enjoys themselves.

John DiCocco, editor of New England Golf Guide noted, "Southers Marsh is one of my ten favorite courses in Massachusetts. It has 18 wonderful holes, and the nicest, most sincere group of owner managers you'll find anywhere, the Stearns family. They care about their golfers and they care about their course."
