Emma Machado of Plymouth Installed as 89th Grand Worthy Advisor in Massachusetts

The 89th annual session of the Grand Assembly of Massachusetts, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, was held at the Plymouth Memorial Hall on Friday, June 27 to Sunday June 29, 2014.  The sessions included business meetings, a memorial service, an awards ceremony, and the installation of the 2014-2015 Grand Officers.  Almost 550 girls and advisors attended from across Massachusetts, with visitors from California, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.  Young women and local Rainbow Assemblies from across the state were recognized for their accomplishments and the service they performed during the past year.

Miss Emma L. Machado, 19, of Plymouth, MA was installed as the new Grand Worthy Advisor and assumed leadership of the organization for the next year.  Machado announced that her theme will be “S’More Fun with Massachusetts Rainbow.”  “This year is going to be a year full of excitement and bonding!,” said Machado.  “Rainbow Camp is an amazing place where you make life-long friends and memories. By having camping as our theme we will be promoting the fun and sense of community, which exists at Rainbow Camp, throughout the year!” Machado has planned several state-wide activities including picnics, ice cream socials, and a sleepover at the Rainbow Camp in Hanson, Massachusetts, and a trip to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, New Hampshire.

Machado announced that her service project for the year will be to collect donations for the Pajama Program, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that delivers warm sleepwear and nurturing books to children in need, many waiting and hoping to be adopted.  Rainbow Assemblies across the state will be working to help support the organization’s “One Million Good Nights” initiatives to collect one million new pajamas and books to help children in need experience a secure and nurturing ‘Good Night’ at bedtime.
