DESCRIPTION:Beginning the week of Sept. 10\, Family Story Time will be pr
 esented every Monday at 11 a.m. This half-hour program gives parents\, c
 aregivers\, and children ages 6 and under the opportunity to enjoy books
 \, songs\, rhymes\, and movement activities together while helping to de
 velop important early literacy skills. This is a free program\, and regi
 stration is not required.Research shows that children get ready to read 
 years before they start school. There are six pre-reading areas of knowl
 edge which children must develop: letter knowledge\, phonological awaren
 ess\, narrative skills\, vocabulary\, print awareness\, and print motiva
 tion.Each week during Family Story Time\, we pick one of the six pre-rea
 ding skills and put together a series of stories\, music\, and activitie
 s designed to reinforce these particular skills. We will also give paren
 ts ideas of how to work on these skills at home.For more information abo
