Let's Scream 4 Ice Cream opens for the summer in the Pinehills.
Nothing says summer more than a drippy ice cream cone and Plymouth's newest ice cream shop just opened for business. Let's Scream 4 Ice Cream opened May 4 in the Pinehills Village Green. The shop offers more than just 18 flavors of ice cream, according to owner and Plymouth resident Anthony Apicella. The shop also offers low-fat frozen yogurt, sundaes, milkshakes, sherbert, and the New England standard: frappes. Apicella grew up in a family of restaurateurs and cooks, and following a long career as a manager for various biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, has decided to pursue his passion for the culinary arts. A CEO magazine ranks Massachusetts as one of the worst states in the nation for business. Chief Executive Magazine ranked Massachusetts 47th based on a survey of corporate leaders. Survey respondents reported the Bay State is one of the worst for taxation and regulation. The state Republican Party is pointing to the survey and saying that Gov. Deval Patrick and the Democratic-led Legislature are bad for the economy and business. What do you think about Massachusetts’ business climate? Is this a good state in which to do business? Guilty Bakery brings a sweet tooth to Main Street.
Guilty Bakery opened at 54 Main St. in April and is already making friends with their colorful cookies, cute cupcakes and amazing cakes. Amy Dieso and Krista Maylater are trained bakers who were worked together at another bakery in Southeastern Massachusetts when Dieso asked Maylater if she'd be interested in opening their own bakery. "I was like OK! What a great oporunity," Maylater said. The bakery has been open a month and orders for custom cakes, cookies and more are pouring in. When the Boston Marathon bombing occurred, they immediately thought about what they could do to help. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is planning to purchase up to $5 million of cranberry concentrate for federal nutrition assistance programs and food banks.
The USDA's plan to purchase up to $5 million in cranberry concentrate from growers in Massachusetts will help support local farmers, a vital part of the economy of Southeastern Massachusetts. United States Senators Elizabeth Warren and William "Mo" Cowan, along with Congressmen James McGovern, William Keating, and Joseph P. Kennedy III, applauded the decision in a press release from Warren's office: "I'm pleased the USDA has announced plans to buy cranberry products for federal nutrition assistance programs," Senator Elizabeth Warren said. "This purchase will help support hardworking cranberry growers throughout Massachusetts who play an important role in our local economy and will provide our children with another drink alternative." …
