Accomplishments:  On June 14, Shawn received his Eagle Scout Rank, which is the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America; less than 4% of Scouts nationwide receive this honor.  Shawn is currently ranked in the top 3% of his graduating class of 2012, and he was inducted into the National Honor Society in March and nominated by his peers to be vice president.  In addition, he is trumpet section leader and officer in the band and last month he received the National Arion award for outstanding achievement by high school musicians.  In addition, in May, Shawn was honored by receiving the Harvard Book Award for excellence in scholarship, good character, and achievement in other fields, and he was one of two juniors selected as the school nominee for the National Teacher's English Achievement Award in Writing.  In addition to Scouts and Band, Shawn is also a member of Drama Club, Math Team, and Model UN.

What has made him successful:  Shawn had to write a "Statement of Life Purpose" for his Eagle Board of Review and in it he states that he started scouting in first grade and he learned the basic necessities of life such as hard work, responsibility, and helping others.  He contributes his good citizenship and leadership to scouting.  According to his mother, Nancy, scouting taught him to always do his best – which he brought to the classroom.  He developed drive and determination at a very young age.  His teachers over the years have provided him with a passion to learn, which has given him the confidence to challenge himself academically.  Shawn respects the leaders in his life.  He's a kind and humble person.
