Plymouth Senior Center Offering Free Tax Preparation

Plymouth seniors can have their taxes prepared free by AARP volunteers between now and April 15.

Now through April 15, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will provide free tax assistance and preparation at the Plymouth Senior Center.  Available to middle-and low-income taxpayers, with special attention given to those 60 and older, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the largest, volunteer-run tax assistance program in the country. To schedule an appointment, call 508-830-4230.

"Each of the past two years, we’ve done over 500 people," Director of Elder Affairs Conni DiLego said. "There will be improved computer software this and new volunteers this year."

This year, more than 575 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers have been trained in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue to assist taxpayers with the preparation of basic federal and state tax returns.  They are well-versed in federal and state tax rules, including the “Circuit Breaker” tax credit, which is available for Massachusetts property owners and renters who are 65 and older and meet certain criteria.

Appointments are being scheduled from now until April 15 at the Plymouth Senior Center, 10 Cordage Park Circle. To schedule an appointment, call 508-830-4230.
