Plymouth native, teacher, politician, and proud veteran Alba Thompson died Jan. 2.
Alba C. (Martinelli) Thompson of Plymouth died January 2nd in Life Care Center of Plymouth.
She was the beloved wife of the late Loren B. Thompson. Born in Plymouth August 13, 1918 a daughter of the late Luigi and Elisa (Malaguti) Martinelli.
Educated and graduated from Bridgewater Teachers College with a B.S. in Education, Boston University Graduate Study in History, and School of Military government at the University of Virginia, Civil Affairs Training School at Stanford University, Asia Institute in NYC with a degree in Political Science, University of Hawaii Graduate Study and Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. Alba was a Teacher of history in Livingston, NJ. High School, Teacher of World Cultures, Asian Studies, Humanities at Plymouth –Carver High School, Coordinator of Social Studies for the Plymouth – Carver School District from 1982 – 1985. United Nations Representive 1958-1964 and Lecturer in Far East, International Relations.
Alba had a long time military career and was commissioned Second Lieutenant WAAC 1942, WAC, 1942, served in the Air Force – Troop Carrier Command – Military Police Corps Civil Affairs Dept., Liaison Officer between supreme Commander, Allied Powers far East and U.S. Army Military government in Lorea, Assistant Chief Advisor to the Government of Korea 1945 – 1946. Separated from active duty with rank of Major, Military Police Corps 1948, discharged from active Army Reserve in 1952 and awarded seven ribbons for service. Active with politics she was elected to the to the Board of Education in Livingston New Jersey, served as President for two terms, twice elected to the Board of Selectmen in Plymouth from 1986 -1989 and 1989-1992 and chairman from 1988-1990.
A private funeral service will be held in the Cartmell Funeral Home. Burial in Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth.
